ISLAMABAD: The electricity consumers should brace themselves for a big jolt as the federal government has decided to accumulate pension fund from them by adding extra expenditures to their power bills.
Reportedly, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has directed the LESCO and other electricity distribution companies to add pension expenditures to the next tariff petition.
The government has decided to put an extra burden of the pension of retired officers and employees of the power sector on consumers. Work in this regard has been started to include pension expenditures in the electricity bill after making an estimate.
The NEPRA has asked the companies to make pension expenditures part of the billing tariff.  According to the NEPRA notification, WAPDA has put a ban on the payment to pensioners. But the LESCO and other companies are paying pensions to the power sector retired employees.-PNP
