ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, Pakistan Public Works Department ( PWD) Chief Engineer (North), Anwarul Haq has been included in the exit control list (ECL) based on the recommendation of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). This decision comes amidst an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption amounting to a staggering Rs.33 billion in various development projects under the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD).
The investigation revealed that Chief Engineer Anwarul Haq had misused his authority and engaged in tampering with official documents, resulting in substantial financial irregularities and significant losses to the national exchequer. The case has been referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further investigation and legal action.
As a consequence of the inclusion in the ECL, the dual nationality holder chief engineer will be prohibited from traveling abroad for pre-shipment inspections. The Secretary of Housing and Works has also called for the suspension of Chief Engineer North by the pre-Zoning PDA (Pakistan Engineering Council).
Prior to this development, Chief Engineer South, Anwar-ul-Haq Dogar, had already served with a charge sheet by the Director-General of PWD. He now faces allegations of embezzlement from the national treasury and may face removal from the promotion list due to the ongoing NAB inquiry and the Anti-Corruption and Internal-Legal (ACIL) investigation.
The investigation into the corruption scandal within the Peshawar Circle of the PWD continues, as authorities strive to uncover the full extent of financial misconduct and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. When contacted Mr. Anwarul Haq was not available for comments.
