ISLAMABAD, Dec 03 (NNI): Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has sent Rs2bn legal notice to PTI leader Shahbaz Gill for defaming him.
Additional Sessions Judge Samina Hayat on Saturday issued a notice to Shahbaz Gill on behalf of Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
In the notice, Abbasi alleged that in a news conference on July 31, 2022, Gill had claimed to have unearthed three financial transactions worth Rs140 million between Abbasi and an Indian company while he was still the federal petroleum minister.
He added that the transactions were claimed to have occurred via Faysal Bank and Mashriq Bank.
Moreover, the notice said that Gill tried to substantiate his claims and “deliberately passed ridiculous remarks” to prove the connection and used the terms traitor and Indian spy for Abbasi.
The notice accused Gill of willfully and maliciously making false allegations and misleading the public.
He said that Shahbaz Gill as chief of staff of PTI chairman made baseless allegations against him in the media. Shahbaz Gill has seriously affected my reputation by making baseless accusations, a notice of Shahid added.
Senior Vice President of PML-N Abbasi sought an amount of Rs 2bn for recovery of damages.
“I have been a Member of the National Assembly, former Federal Minister and former Prime Minister,” he said, adding that Gill blamed me for his own interest. NNI
