ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office emphasized the significance of economic diplomacy as a key pillar of the country’s foreign policy. The Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, highlighted that Pakistan’s missions abroad have been given clear instructions to promote economic ties, boost exports, and attract foreign investment.
The spokesperson mentioned that during Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s visit to Iraq, economic agendas were given top priority in discussions with Iraqi leadership. Economic and trade issues are consistently included in the talks whenever Pakistani leaders undertake foreign visits.

Regarding the US State Department’s request for consular access to Khadija Shah, a jailed suspect from May 9th, Baloch confirmed that the request had been received and forwarded to the Ministry of Interior for a final decision. She also assured that Pakistan will follow its laws and international obligations in bringing those responsible for the May 9th events to justice.
Addressing concerns about human rights, Baloch stated that Pakistan is a country governed by laws and has constitutionally guaranteed human rights and fundamental freedoms. She emphasized Pakistan’s democratic setup, which includes a free and independent judiciary, and affirmed the government’s commitment to upholding its obligations under the law and constitution.
Regarding the alleged involvement of Afghan nationals in the May 9th events, Baloch mentioned that reports of arrests were being verified. If any Afghan nationals are found to be involved in subversive activities, Pakistani law will take its course.
Baloch stated that the authenticity of a viral video allegedly showing the humiliation of ex-army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa by an Afghan national in France has not been confirmed.
Commenting on the reopening of the Iranian embassy in Riyadh and its significance, Baloch expressed Pakistan’s support for the normalization of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. She believed that the reopening of diplomatic missions by both countries would contribute to positive relations, peace, and stability in the region.
Responding to queries about the renewal of Pakistani passports for Rohingya refugees in Saudi Arabia, Baloch acknowledged the complexity of the issue, which is currently under consideration by the Ministry of Interior.
Regarding the future of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, Baloch affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the project, despite certain complications in its implementation. Pakistan remains engaged with both Iran and the United States on this matter.
The spokesperson mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs facilitated Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui’s visit to the United States, allowing her to meet her sister, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, in prison on three occasions.
