ISLAMABAD: In a recent update on the tragic boat capsizing incident off the coast of Greece, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, has confirmed that twelve Pakistanis have been identified among the survivors.
While the exact number and identities of Pakistani nationals among the deceased are still being verified, the Pakistan Mission in Greece, led by Ambassador Aamar Aftab, is actively coordinating with local authorities. Their primary focus is on identifying and recovering Pakistani nationals among the deceased and providing assistance to the survivors.
The Pakistani Mission is also working closely with Greek authorities in the process of identifying the 78 bodies that have been recovered. This identification process involves DNA matching with close family members, specifically parents and children.
To aid in the verification process, families of likely passengers on the ill-fated boat are urged to contact the Pakistan Mission in Greece through the 24/7 helpline numbers. They are requested to provide DNA reports from accredited laboratories and submit the passenger’s identity documents to the email address [email protected].
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, the following Pakistanis have been rescued from the tragic incident:
1. Muhammad Adnan Bashir, son of Muhammad Bashir from Kotli (ID no 5)
2. Haseeb Ur Rehman, son of Habib ur Rehman from Kotli (ID no 4)
3. Muhammad Hamza, son of Abdul Ghafoor from Gujranwala (ID no 3)
4. Azmat Khan, son of Muhammad Saleeho from Gujrat (ID no 54)
5. Muhammad Sunny, son of Farooq Ahmed from Sheikhupura (ID no 2)
6. Zahid Akbar, son of Akbar Ali from Sheikhupura (ID no 53)
7. Mehtab Ali, son of Muhammad Ashraf from Mandi Bahauddin (ID no 7)
8. Rana Husnain, son of Rana Naseer Ahmad from Sialkot (ID no 1)
9. Usman Siddique, son of Muhammad Siddique from Gujrat (ID no 52)
10. Zeeshan Sarwar, son of Ghulam Sarwar from Gujranwala (ID no 8)
11. Irfan Ahmed, son of Shafi (Hospitalized)
12. Imran Arain, son of Maqbool (Hospitalized)
A team from the Embassy of Pakistan has visited the survivors to provide assistance and support. The Embassy is maintaining close communication with Greek authorities to aid in the recovery of the missing individuals and the confirmation and identification of the deceased.
The boat capsizing incident has sparked an international effort to rescue survivors and ensure the welfare of those affected. The Pakistani government, along with various agencies and organizations, is actively engaged in addressing this unfortunate tragedy and providing support to the affected families.
