Islamabad (Staff Reporter) On September 20, 2023, a workshop was held at a local hotel in Islamabad for the project to enhance SDG 6 water quality monitoring in Pakistan. The event was attended by the Ministry of Climate Change (MOCC) and the country’s Senior Joint Secretary Mohammad Farooq. Director Je Ho Yeon from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The workshop was organized into four main sessions: KOICA Project led by KOMIR Introduction to, Strengthening Pakistan’s Water Quality System to Achieve SDG6 Reporting led by PCRWR, Proposals to improve Pakistan’s legal and regulatory framework related to SDG6 led by K-Water and MIS. For KP and under the leadership of PHED KP to enhance water quality systems in Pakistan to achieve SDG 6. This $7.42 million project spanning 2019 to 2024 aims to achieve SDG 6. Government of Pakistan has to increase its capacity. KOICA has invited 31 government officials to Korea to observe water quality management in Korea. Further, KOICA is supplying water quality testing equipment to 44 laboratories of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in Punjab and KP provinces as well as 2 laboratories of Pak-EPA and PCRWR. Recently, a Management Information System (MIS) has been set up and tested for the province of KP. Additionally, the project is designed to provide consultation on water quality management and water policy and legislation in Pakistan. Will make suggestions. KOICA, a grant agency of the Korean government, has a successful track record of implementing various projects in the fields of water, energy and rural development in Pakistan. KOICA collaborates with KOMIR, K-Water, GDC Consulting, and UNOPS to implement an SDG6 project aimed at enhancing water quality monitoring capacity in Pakistan.
