ISLAMABAD: In a significant breakthrough related to the fake degree case involving former DRAP CEO Sheikh Akhtar Hussain, the FIA anti-corruption circle executed a targeted raid Friday on an office premises in F-10 Markaz. Acting on information provided by co-accused Raja Khurram Kiyani, the operation revealed an expansive international racket orchestrated by the fraudulent Open International University Sri Lanka.
The illicit operation charged aspiring individuals USD 1000 for MD degrees and USD 1500 for PhD degrees. Central to the network was Dr. Muhammad Amin Baig, an agent now under arrest. The search of the premises exposed a cache of incriminating evidence, including blank degree certificates, emboss seals, stamps, and various materials associated with the deceitful university.
Further investigation uncovered that Dr. Amin Baig was also involved in operating a counterfeit International Council, falsely claiming to be a government-established entity known as the International Alternative Medical Council. Notably, this same network had provided Sheikh Akhtar Hussain with a fake PhD degree.
Both Pakistani agents have been apprehended, and authorities plan to engage Interpol to facilitate an investigation into the matter in Sri Lanka. The accused individuals are scheduled to appear in court today for remand proceedings.
