KARACHI: Two Pakistani nationals lost their lives Friday in a terrorist attack in the Landhi area of Karachi, according to a statement released by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The attack occurred earlier Friday, but the prompt response by law enforcement agencies resulted in the death of two terrorists involved in the incident.
Five Japanese nationals who were present in the area at the time of the attack escaped unhurt. Pakistani authorities have assured the public that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of foreign nationals residing in the country and to bring the perpetrators of such acts of terrorism to justice.
The Government of Pakistan has condemned the attack, calling it a heinous act of terrorism. In the press release, the government reiterated its resolve to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from the country and expressed its commitment to working with international partners to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
Further details about the attack, including the identities of the victims and the terrorists, have not been released at this time. Pakistani authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the motives and connections of the attackers.
The Landhi area of Karachi, where the attack took place, has seen a recent uptick in criminal activity. This incident marks a troubling escalation in violence in the region, which has prompted security forces to heighten their vigilance and presence in the area.
Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. Additional security measures are expected to be put in place in the coming days to ensure the safety and security of citizens and foreign nationals in Karachi.
