27th Annual General Meeting of Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) Held

ISLAMABAD: In a significant move aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency in Islamabad, the Ministry of Interior has initiated steps to requisition the services of Ch. Muhammad Ali Randhawa (PAS/BS-20), Commissioner Lahore, currently serving under the Government of Punjab.
According to sources within the Ministry, Ch. Muhammad Ali Randhawa is being considered for key positions such as Chief Commissioner of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) or Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). Known for his efficiency and integrity, Randhawa has garnered praise for his exemplary service record across federal and provincial administrations.
Randhawa’s illustrious career spans various pivotal roles, including Assistant Commissioner in Islamabad during General Musharraf’s and PPP regimes. He has also served as Principal Staff Officer (PSO) to Shehbaz Sharif during his tenures as Chief Minister of Punjab, earning commendation for his dedication and effectiveness.
Notably, Randhawa’s performance during the Covid-19 lockdown received accolades from the previous PTI government, further solidifying his reputation as a capable administrator.
However, his potential appointment is not without controversy. Similar to the appointment of the Inspector General of Islamabad, Randhawa’s selection may lead to friction between federal and provincial authorities. In the past, there have been instances where the Punjab government opposed his appointments to federal positions, reflecting the political dynamics at play.
Randhawa’s close association with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has also been highlighted, underscoring his perceived loyalty and trustworthiness within government circles.
It is worth noting that during the tenure of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed a desire to appoint Randhawa as Chief Commissioner of Islamabad and Chairman of CDA. However, this proposal faced resistance from the Punjab government, leading to the appointment of other officials.
In light of his extensive experience and proven track record, Ch. Muhammad Ali Randhawa emerges as a strong contender to spearhead critical administrative roles in Islamabad, signaling a potential shift in the capital’s governance landscape. He is also known for wiping corruption and nepotism from wherever he served.
