Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said that on the occasion of Muharram ul Haram, Punjab Police is ensuring foolproof security arrangements across the province, Majalis and processions organized in all the districts are being provided with the best security as per SOPs. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that on 1st of Muharram, 96 religious processions and 3320 majalis were held in all districts of the province, whose security duties were performed by more than 43 thousand officers and officials. Similarly on 1st Muharram, 10 processions and 402 majalis were held in the provincial capital, whose security duties were performed by more than 03 thousand police officers and officials. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that security will be on high alert throughout the province during the month of Muharram, and implementation of Section 144 enforced by the Punjab Government is being strictly ensured. Aerial firing, display of weapons, publication & spread of hateful material, incitement, etc. are prohibited. IG Punjab said that processions and gatherings are not allowed at any place other than the scheduled routes and places. Full monitoring of all activities is going on with the help of Safe Cities Authority and district administration camera networks.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar further said that community volunteers are providing support in the security arrangements of Majalis and processions. CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, Peru and other field formations are deployed on Muharram security. Dr. Usman Anwar instructed officers to strictly enforce the Loudspeaker Act and ensure that those spreading hate material on social media are dealt with according to the law. He also mentioned that control rooms established in all districts are connected to the central control room at the Central Police Office and will remain in constant communication regarding the monitoring of the security arrangements.
