IG Punjab directive: Punjab Police intensified actions for preventing Smog and Environmental Protection.

Lahore:Under the guidance of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police continues its crackdown to combat smog and protect the environment. Strict actions are being taken against violations of the smog SOPs, with operations being carried out without discrimination. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed an intensification of the anti-smog crackdown on highways, industrial areas, agricultural sites, and other locations, directing that zero tolerance be adopted against those responsible for violating SOPs. Spokesperson for Punjab Police said that in the last 24 hours, 06 cases were registered, 447 individuals were fined a total of 725,000 rupees, and 31 people were issued warnings. Violations included 02 cases of burning crop residue, and 348 violations related to vehicles emitting excessive smoke. So far this year, the anti-smog crackdown has led to the arrest of 3,176 individuals, with 3,741 cases registered. In total, 7,411 warnings have been issued, and fines exceeding 9.63 crore rupees have been imposed on 38,415 people. The violations reported include 2,051 cases of crop residue burning, 33,343 cases of high-emission vehicles, 364 industrial activity violations, 1,395 violations related to brick kilns, and 360 violations at other locations. The Punjab Police spokesperson further noted that in the past 24 hours, 4,477 high-emission vehicles were fined, 372 vehicles were impounded, and 07 vehicles had their fitness certificates suspended. This year, a total of 864,000 high-emission vehicles have been fined on highways, 170,253 vehicles have been impounded, and fitness certificates for 10,101 vehicles have been suspended.
