IG Punjab Orders Strict Enforcement of Kite Flying Prohibition Act across the Province

Lahore:Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed all RPOs and DPOs to ensure the strict implementation of the Kite Flying Prohibition Act across Lahore and the entire province. He instructed that a crackdown on kite flyers, kite sellers, and manufacturers should be intensified. He emphasized that no permission would be granted for this life-threatening activity, and a zero-tolerance approach should be adopted against those involved in the deadly business. Additionally, he ordered that individuals involved in the online trade of metallic strings and kites should also be brought under legal action.

He further urged parents to keep their children away from this dangerous game, while teachers and civil society should play their part in preventing this hazardous activity and business. IG Punjab also called on citizens to prove their civic responsibility by informing authorities at 15 about kite flying activities.

In a statement regarding actions against kite sellers and flyers, the spokesperson of Punjab Police said that this year, 31 accused have been arrested, and 34 cases have been registered for violating the Kite Flying Prohibition Act across Lahore and the province. The spokesperson further shared that more than 5,500 kites and 300 strings of thread were seized, and challans were submitted in 18 cases. In the provincial capital, Lahore, 19 accused were arrested, 22 cases were filed, and 70 kites along with 25 strings of thread were recovered.  The spokesperson also mentioned that last year, across Lahore and the province, 12,525 accused were arrested, and 11,866 cases were filed. More than 677,000 kites and over 36,000 strings of thread were recovered from the possession of the accused.
