ISLAMABAD, :Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Ali Randhawa, held a virtual meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Wednesday.
The meeting, attended by senior CDA officials including Member Planning Dr Khalid Hafeez and DG Resources Shakeel Ahmed, focused on key projects such as the Islamabad Intercity Bus Terminal and the Mass Transit Master Plan 2030.
During the briefing, Chairman Randhawa was informed that the pre-feasibility report for the Islamabad Intercity Bus Terminal has been finalized, paving the way for the initiation of a detailed feasibility study.
The project, which aims to integrate the bus terminal with the existing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and Islamabad’s electric buses, will also include infrastructure for charging electric buses, reflecting the city’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
Chairman Randhawa emphasized the importance of completing the Intercity Bus Terminal project in phases and urged the ADB to develop an optimal operational and financial model.
He stressed that the model should be finalized after thorough technical consultations and approvals from relevant government departments to ensure its successful implementation.
In addition to the bus terminal project, the meeting also highlighted the commencement of work on the Mass Transit Master Plan 2030.
The ADB will provide technical assistance in preparing the master plan, which is expected to include ambitious projects such as the extension of the Islamabad BRT, the introduction of rail cars, and significant investments in transport infrastructure.
These initiatives aim to address the growing transportation needs of the city and improve connectivity for its residents.
Chairman Randhawa expressed his optimism about the collaboration with ADB, stating, “The Mass Transit Master Plan 2030 will be a game-changer for Islamabad, ensuring a modern, efficient, and sustainable transportation network that meets the needs of our citizens.”
The ADB delegation commended the CDA’s efforts and performance, reaffirming their commitment to supporting the development and progress of Islamabad.
They assured full cooperation in the implementation of these transformative projects, which are expected to significantly enhance the quality of life in the capital city.
