ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) took legal action against more than 10,545 motorists, motorcyclists, and public transport drivers during the past week for violating traffic laws, as part of a city-wide crackdown on road rule violations.An official told APP on Monday that the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) launched a special campaign to ensure road safety and compliance with traffic regulations, penalizing thousands of violators across different categories.As part of the campaign, 1,157 vehicles were fined for having non-standard number plates, 1,087 motorcyclists for riding without helmets, 3,172 vehicles for illegal parking, and 1,024 drivers for traveling in the wrong direction. Additionally, 1,723 were fined for signal violations, 518 for not wearing seat belts, and 175 for using mobile phones while driving.He said that a total of 1,599 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded in various police stations due to serious violations.Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muhammad Zeeshan urged citizens to follow traffic laws and cooperate with traffic police to maintain a smooth and safe traffic system in the city.CTO Zeeshan said that the Islamabad Traffic Police is making every possible effort to prevent road accidents and ensure the rule of law on an equal basis for all road users.
