ISLAMABAD:Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has taken a significant step toward fostering long-term engagement with its former students by inaugurating a dedicated “Alumni Corner” on campus.The inauguration was formally carried out by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood. The newly established section aims to recognize the academic, social, and professional contributions of distinguished alumni serving in key positions both nationally and internationally.The ceremony was attended by faculty members from various departments along with principal officers of the university. During the event, the Vice Chancellor also recorded his remarks in the Alumni Visitors’ Book.In his address, Dr. Nasir Mahmood shared that more than five million students have graduated from AIOU so far, with around 100,000 being added annually. He noted that these graduates are making valuable contributions across Pakistan and in institutions around the world.He emphasized the importance of building a dynamic, well-coordinated, and sustainable alumni network, which can play a key role in student welfare, fundraising, scholarship initiatives, career guidance, and enhancing the university’s global reputation.Dr. Mahmood urged alumni to actively participate in networking, information exchange, community service, and initiatives aimed at promoting the university’s image.During the event, Director Student Affairs Syed Ghulam Kazim Ali presented future plans for strengthening the alumni network.Other speakers included Director General of Regional Services Dr. Malik Tauqir Ahmad Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies Prof. Dr. Moeenuddin Hashmi, and Director of Coordination and Administration Prof. Dr. Syed Aamir Shah. They all welcomed the initiative, calling it a visionary and impactful step toward enhancing alumni-university ties.At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor congratulated Syed Ghulam Kazim Ali and his team on this commendable initiative. He also directed the preparation of detailed working papers for the Alumni Corner to facilitate further planning and implementation in upcoming phases.
