ISLAMABAD:The Excise and Taxation Department has decided to take disciplinary action against its staff found in contact with private agents operating outside the department’s premises. The decision came during a monthly performance review meeting chaired by Director General Irfan Memon.Senior officials, including the Excise Director and other administrative officers, participated in the session. The DG expressed concern over reports that some department employees were maintaining connections with agents who facilitate applicants outside official channels. Officials agreed that such practices compromise transparency and must be addressed through strict internal measures. It was decided that an inquiry would be launched, and disciplinary action would be initiated against those found involved. The performance report highlighted a continued focus on traffic law enforcement. In the last month alone, action was taken against 68 vehicles for using non-standard number plates. Fines amounting to over Rs831,000 were collected from violators.Similarly, the department imposed fines on 164 vehicles for using black-tinted windows, collecting around Rs1.95 million in penalties. Officials said these actions are part of an ongoing effort to ensure vehicles meet legal safety and identification standards in the federal capital. The DG stressed the importance of fair implementation of the law and directed field officers to remain vigilant. He also instructed that regular checks on vehicle documentation and compliance be maintained. The department plans to increase surprise inspections and expand coordination with local police to identify repeated offenders. Officials also discussed the need to streamline services within the department to reduce the influence of outside agents and improve direct access for citizens. The meeting concluded with a directive to all regional officers to submit detailed monthly reports and maintain transparency in enforcement and operations.
