HYDERABAD: Flood affected children sitting outside their temporary makeshifts alongside Tando Jam road, as incessant rains in Hyderabad since the past week have made lives miserable in the city, especially for people living in the low-lying areas. The rains and consequent floods have wreaked havoc in several colonies, with water inundating homes up to several feet and washing away valuables.

RAWALPINDI, Aug 25 (NNI): To help out the flood affectees, the Pakistan army Thursday announced to set up the Army’s Donation Centres in all major cities for the collection of goods from the masses.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), wealthy people have been urged to come forward to support the poor masses facing serious disastrous floods and rains across the country. The Pak army said that they will collect the goods at the donation centres under the instructions of the federal government.
The Pak army said that as part of its national responsibility, it has launched a massive rescue and relief operation in the notified affected areas and for this purpose, a Relief and Rescue Organization has been established under Headquarters Army Air Defense Command to manage relief and rescue operations.
The Pak army said it has shifted 40,000 people to safe places and established more than 137 relief camps. Additionally, 23,000 people have been provided medical assistance at around 200 temporary medical centres. Similarly, it has distributed more than 3700 tents among flood affectees.
Apart from this, on the special orders of the Chief of Army Staff, the Army has distributed more than 3 days of ration (about 1500 tons) among the common people in the flood-affected area.
In this spirit, all the General Officers of the Army have given their monthly salary to help the victims while other officers are also giving financial donations on a voluntary basis.
The Pak army said people can provide essential items like tents, shelters, solar lights, beds, mattresses, weather blankets, sheets, water storage/cleaning kits, water tanks, flashlights, lights, rain boots, Ration (flour, ghee, rice, dal, dry milk, sugar, leaf), clean drinking water, first aid kits, essential medicines like diarrhoea, eye, ear and skin diseases, dehydration, dengue and malaria at the donation centres.
The Pakistan Army will ensure the transfer of all these items to the flood-affected areas as soon as possible and supply to the victims. NNI
