ISLAMABAD, August 30: Giving a big relief to all electricity consumers instead of only lifeline users, the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, has ordered the authorities to withdraw the fuel adjustment charges from the power tariffs of all consumers.
The LHC Rawalpindi bench headed by Justice Jawad Hassan announced the verdict on Tuesday. The bench was hearing a petition filed by Ch Rizwan Elahi advocate. The petitioner requested the court to withdraw the fuel adjustment charges being taken from the power consumers.
While announcing the verdict, the court directed the authorities that instead of providing relief to consumers who are using only 200 units, the relief should be provided to all electricity users ordering the government to withdraw fuel adjustment charges from the bills.
Meanwhile, Lahore High Court Justice Anwaar Hussain heard a petition against the fuel adjustment charges today. The petition seeking interim relief for the agricultural and domestic consumers was filed by Pakistan Kisan and Labour Party leader Sardar Mehrab Hassan.
The court rejected the plea. But it sought reply from the federal government, Lesco and other power distribution companies in this regard. However, the court granted the interim relief to an agricultural consumer Mudassar Majid in connection with the fuel adjustment charges.-SABAH
