KARACHI: Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister, Saeed Ghani, has said that October 16 by-elections in two National Assembly constituencies in Karachi will serve as a test case for Pakistan People’s Party to contest the upcoming local government elections in the city.
Saeed Ghani who is also PPP Karachi President stated this on Thursday while chairing a meeting to review the preparations of the party to contest the upcoming by-poll in the constituency NA-239 of District Korangi.
Ghani announced that PPP would nominate an in-charge for supervising the election campaign of the party in each of 340 polling stations of the constituency.
He advised the candidates of the PPP for union committee chairmen, vice-chairmen, and councilors who belonged to the constituency to participate in the election campaign of the party while considering the by-poll as a trial for the local government elections in Karachi.
He said that PPP would nominate in-charge persons to supervise the election campaign of the party in the constituency at the levels of union councils, wards, and polling stations. While there will also be an overall in charge of the election campaign of the party in the constituency.
PPP Sindh General Secretary, Waqar Mehdi, said that there was a lot of difference in the environment of general elections and a by-election.
He said that election offices established in District Korangi for the local government elections should be transformed into by-election offices.
He asked the office-bearers of the party to complete the preparations for the upcoming by-elections.
PPP Karachi General-Secretary Jawed Nagori said the People’s Party would utilize its fullest energy and resources to contest the upcoming by-elections in Karachi.
PPP’s candidate for NA-239 in Karachi, Syed Imran Haider Abidi, said that he had contested the general election of 2018, as he wouldn’t repeat the mistakes he had committed in the previous poll.
Participants of the meeting expressed their resolve to win the upcoming by-election and local government elections in Karachi.
