KARACHI: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reached Karachi from Berlin (Germany) on Saturday.
Sources in the Civil Aviation said that Bilawal, who is also PPP chairman, reached Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on board a special plane.
Earlier, Germany has shown solidarity with Pakistan over flood devastation and announced an additional one million euros in aid for the calamity-hit people.
It is difficult to estimate how much destruction was caused by the flood in Pakistan, German Foreign Minister Annalina Bierbock said while addressing a joint press along with her Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto in Belin on Friday.
Pakistan is the most affected by climate change, she said adding that Flood-born mosquitoes are causing malaria and flood victims, especially children, are forced to live under the open sky.
Germany wants to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Pakistan, the German FM said, adding that Pakistan’s role in the Afghan issue has always been important.
Bilawal Bhutto highlighted the devastation caused by recent flooding that claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands of families.
The foreign minister said: “The biggest catastrophe has been causing waterborne diseases and women and children have been at the receiving end.”
He continued: “One-third of Pakistan’s area was badly affected by floods.
More than 30 million people were directly affected. Pakistan is facing a major disaster due to climate change.”
Bilawal Bhutto expressed gratitude to his German counterpart for the hospitality he accorded in Berlin.
