ISLAMABAD, Oct 20 (NNI): British High Commissioner Christian Turner met Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Mufti Abdul Shakoor.
During the meeting, the duo reiterated their resolve to continue with joint efforts for peace in the region, elimination of extremism, promotion of mutual cooperation.
The British High Commissioner said that Britain is trying to promote peace, interfaith harmony, and bilateral ties in the region.
At the public level, the Pakistan-UK strong bond and the promotion of religious freedom and tolerance are among the priorities, he said and mentioned resuming air travel service dispelling misperception.
He said Britain donated 100 million pounds to Pakistani flood victims and the UK is ready to resettle refugees, revive the economy, end extremism, and promote girls’ education. The UK acknowledges Pakistan’s sacrifice in the war on terror, he added.
Mufti Abdul Shakoor said that the welfare of human beings is part of Islam and his ministry strives to do so. He added: “The life, property and dignity of the non-Muslim population living in Pakistan is equally important to us. The Afghan government is not against the education of girls, their main problem is peace, security, and international interference.
The minister maintained: “Openness to minorities is in accordance with the teachings of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and the constitution of Pakistan.
“In order to prevent anti-Islamic and hateful incidents in the West, the growth of development of mutual ties is indispensable. Our religion, state and people are against religious extremism and misuse of religion.
