ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi Thursday stated that the Ambassador of Norway Per Albert Ilsaas called on him and discussed the issue faced by Norwegian telecom company Telenor in Pakistan and that they might consider shutting it down.
The Ambassador hinted at Telenor facing issues due to low profitability in the Telecom sector of Pakistan and that the plan for a merger with “Ufone” also went downhill due to which the company might shut down.
SAPM Fatemi reasoned with the Norwegian Ambassador that Telenor has a huge investment in Pakistan and shutting it out would majorly hit Pakistan’s domestic economy.
It was stated that the Board of Investments might consider interacting with Telenor’s Representatives and higher officials to explore possible options and make the company stay in Pakistan. -PNP
