ISLAMABAD: In a significant move, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission to its office Sunday to deliver a demarche regarding the recent US-India Joint Statement issued on June 22, 2023.
Expressing Pakistan’s deep concerns and disappointment, the demarche emphasized that the Joint Statement contained unwarranted, one-sided, and misleading references to Pakistan. The Pakistani officials conveyed their firm stance to the U.S. side, urging them to refrain from issuing statements that could be interpreted as endorsing India’s baseless and politically motivated narrative against Pakistan.
During the meeting, the importance of counter-terrorism cooperation between Pakistan and the United States was highlighted. Both countries have made significant progress in this area, and it was stressed that maintaining an enabling environment based on trust and understanding is crucial for further strengthening the Pakistan-U.S. bilateral ties.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to uphold its commitment to regional peace and stability while advocating for a fair and balanced approach in international relations.
