ISLAMABAD: In a remarkable display of dedication and efficiency, the City Sewerage Department (CSD) of the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) sanitation directorate, led by Director Mashooq Ali Sheikh, successfully cleared a long-standing sewerage blockage in the heart of Islamabad. The initiative not only saved the CDA millions of rupees but also prevented potential environmental damage and inconvenience to residents.
The sewerage line, located in Sitara Market, sector G7, had been choked for over four decades, causing water to flow in the reverse direction and leading to silt accumulation within the pipeline. The CSD sanitation staff, equipped with limited resources, undertook the challenging task of clearing the blockage, which was compounded by debris and rubbish filling nearly 10-15 feet of the 45-foot deep pipeline.
Working tirelessly day and night, the dedicated team managed to clear the obstruction, averting the risk of corrosion and extensive damage to the pipeline. Had the blockage persisted, it would have necessitated the installation of new pipelines, costing the CDA millions in resources and disrupting daily life in the area.
The excavation process, particularly in a densely populated sector like G7, presented numerous challenges. The potential destruction or relocation of hundreds of trees underscored the complexity of the operation. However, through meticulous planning and execution, the CSD sanitation staff succeeded in completing the task without causing harm to the surrounding environment.
Director Mashooq Ali Sheikh, lauding the efforts of his team, emphasized the importance of their work in maintaining the city’s infrastructure and preserving its natural assets. He expressed gratitude to the staff for their dedication and commitment to public service.
This accomplishment highlights a stark contrast to past instances of mismanagement and corruption within the CDA. Despite billions being allocated for infrastructure projects, including beautification efforts, critical issues such as sewerage maintenance were often neglected, leading to widespread inefficiencies and financial losses.
The successful clearance of the sewerage blockage in Sitara Market stands as a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the CSD sanitation directorate. By addressing long-standing issues with limited resources, the team has not only saved the CDA significant expenses but also demonstrated a commitment to serving the community and preserving the environment.
