ICT admin cracks down on hoarding and price violations in Islamabad markets

ISLAMABAD: In response to directives from Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memom, Assistant Commissioner Saddar and Magistrate Saddar Zone spearheaded operations targeting hoarding and price violations in markets across Islamabad. The crackdown aimed to address issues such as hoarding, absence of official price lists, sale of underweight bread, and inadequate cleanliness.
During the operations conducted in areas including G-15, numerous shops were scrutinized. As a result, authorities apprehended five shopkeepers found guilty of violating regulations regarding hoarding, absence of official price lists, and inadequate cleanliness. These individuals were subsequently shifted to Turnol police station for further legal proceedings.
Additionally, warnings were issued to 40 other shopkeepers, urging them to rectify their practices for compliance with regulations.
The arrested individuals comprised a range of vendors, including vegetable and fruit sellers, as well as proprietors of general stores. Legal action is set to be pursued against these offenders as part of the ongoing efforts to uphold market regulations.
According to district administration sources, government officials regularly issue official price lists in vegetable and fruit markets, ensuring the enforcement of official rates throughout Islamabad. Administrative officers have been instructed to maintain continuous vigilance over Islamabad’s markets, with a particular focus on combating hoarding practices.
