ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd (OGDCL) has unveiled a significant discovery of hydrocarbon reserves in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to a stock filing, the exploration was carried out under the Kohat Exploration Licence, with OGDCL holding a 75% stake and Saif Energy Ltd holding 25%.
The discovery was made in the exploratory segment of the Togh-02 (Slant) well in the Lumshiwal-II Formation. The drilling process, which commenced on August 28, 2023, successfully reached a total depth of 2,600 meters. Following the completion of wireline logs, a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-01) was conducted in the Lumshiwal-II Formation.
The results of the test revealed promising figures, with the well demonstrating a flow rate of 2.842 million standard cubic feet per day of gas and 28 barrels per day of condensate. Additionally, the well exhibited a flowing pressure of 540 pounds per square inch at a 32/64” choke size.
This discovery marks a significant milestone for OGDCL, as it not only expands the hydrocarbon play area in the Togh Structure but also presents potential opportunities for further exploration and development in the region.
