Diplomatic correspondent ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar delivered a compelling address at the 15th OIC Islamic Summit Conference.
Expressing grave concern over Israel’s aggressive actions in Gaza and the West Bank, Dar urged immediate cessation of hostilities and unimpeded humanitarian aid for Palestinians. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for Palestine’s full UN membership and advocated for a two-state solution.
Kashmir Advocacy: Dar voiced strong objections to Indian atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He called upon the OIC to implement its Action Plan on Jammu and Kashmir, demanding an end to human rights violations and the release of Hurriyat leaders.
Combatting Islamophobia: Addressing the alarming rise in Islamophobia globally, Dar proposed a collaborative strategy with social media platforms to regulate anti-Islamic content. He commended the OIC’s appointment of a Special Envoy on Islamophobia.
India’s Election Rhetoric: Dar condemned India’s use of anti-Pakistan rhetoric and Islamophobic narratives during its ongoing Lok Sabha elections, warning of potential threats to regional stability.
Terrorism and Climate Change: Reiterating Pakistan’s staunch stance against externally sponsored terrorism, Dar called for unified action within the OIC. He also emphasized the urgent need for OIC involvement in addressing climate change, citing Pakistan’s recent experience with catastrophic floods in 2022.
UN Reform: Dar advocated for a revitalization of the UN system and comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to enhance its representation, democracy, and effectiveness in maintaining global peace and security.
Dar’s address showcased Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to promoting regional stability, defending human rights, and fostering international cooperation on pressing global challenges.
