Lahore:Under the direction of Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Police is continuing operations for prevention of smog and environmental protection and due to continuous measures of Punjab Police, smog is gradually decreasing. The spokesperson of Punjab Police said that in the last 24 hours, 18 cases were registered and 12 individuals were arrested during the crackdown across the province including Lahore, 362 people were fined more than 5.5 lakh rupees, 29 were issued warnings. 07 violations were reported for crop residue burning, 266 for emitting vehicles and 02 for brick kilns. This year, a total of 3644 accused were arrested and 3014 cases were registered in the anti smog crackdown. 38290 people were fined a total of 09 crores, 60 lakh rupees. Warning was issued to 6916 people. 1974 violations were reported for crop residue burning, 30811 for vehicles emitting high smoke, 347 for industrial activity, 1361 for brick kilns, 327 for other places. In the last 24 hours, 4865 excessive smoke emitting vehicles were challaned, 445 were impounded while 02 fitness certificates were suspended. This year, 08 lakh, 35 thousand 259 vehicles emitting excessive smoke on the roads were issued challans, 01 lakh 68 thousand 467 vehicles were impounded, and fitness certificates of 10 thousand 64 vehicles were suspended. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar instructed to intensify the anti-smog crackdown on highways, industrial areas, agriculture Land and other places. He stressed that there should be no delay in strict action under zero tolerance against those responsible for violating smog SOPs.
