LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that all relevant institutions must remain fully prepared to respond effectively to natural disasters in order to safeguard human lives.
In her special message on the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, she said that while natural disasters cannot be completely prevented, their devastating impacts can be significantly reduced through modern technology, institutional coordination, and timely preparedness. “With proactive measures, we can protect lives, property, and the environment from the irreversible damages caused by natural calamities,” she said.Highlighting Punjab’s experience in tackling one of the most severe floods in its history, the Chief Minister noted that the provincial government successfully executed comprehensive rescue, relief, evacuation, and rehabilitation operations in the affected areas. “Had there been no advance preparations, the human loss could have been catastrophic,” she added.Maryam Nawaz Sharif said Punjab earned international recognition for saving hundreds of thousands of lives and protecting countless livestock during the recent flood crisis. She pointed out that timely interventions, including the establishment of medical camps, helped control the spread of infectious diseases in flood-hit areas.
The Chief Minister said that all relevant departments of the Punjab government remain actively engaged in protecting the public from the hazards of floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. “Our commitment to the safety and well-being of every citizen of Punjab remains unwavering,” she concluded.
