ISLAMABAD: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has urged the National Centre of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) to utilise its expertise for integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into academic curricula and course design to prepare a future-ready workforce.
The Chairman HEC convened a follow-up meeting with NCAI, led by Project Director NCAI Dr Yasar Ayaz, to review the achievements and technologies developed by the centre. The meeting was also attended by the Principal Investigators (PIs) of partner laboratories across the country. The NCAI presented a comprehensive portfolio of its cutting-edge technologies and briefed the Chairman on the centre’s advancements, spanning a wide range of applications, including AI-based solutions in defence, healthcare, medicine, energy management, smart cities, legal case analysis, training tools, and preservation of cultural heritage. The Chairman appreciated the innovative products and cutting-edge technologies developed by NCAI in collaboration with national and international partners. He underscored the importance of proactively showcasing these innovations and technologies through digital platforms to enhance public visibility, outreach, and stakeholder engagement. Expressing his keen interest in further engagement, he shared his intention to visit the centre and its affiliated laboratories and to interact with associated start-ups to better understand their contributions and challenges. He also encouraged NCAI to initiate development of AI-based narrative-building tools aimed at addressing national challenges and shaping informed public discourse. Reaffirming HEC’s support, the Chairman assured facilitation in linking NCAI with provincial governments for the adoption and procurement of indigenous AI-based solutions developed by NCAI, contributing to revenue generation and sustainability.
It is pertinent to mention here that HEC earlier organised a meeting of the leading National Centres on Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Robotics. During the meeting, the research activities and operational matters of the centres, established by HEC, were discussed in details.
