KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the families affected by the Badlia factory inferno have been waiting for justice for a decade but unfortunately the masterminds, facilitators and those who issued a go-ahead are not only at large but also enjoying governmental support.
The JI leader expressed these views at the 10-year anniversary of the deadliest industrial inferno in the history caused by terrorists belonging to the then Altaf Hussain-led Muttahida Qaumi Movement in connection with a heavy amount of ransom. On the occasion, Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman pleaded to the chief justice of Pakistan to take a suo motu notice of the situation in connection with implementation on the decision of case.
He said that the family members have been waiting for compensation amount whereas the Sindh government has withheld Rs520 million paid by a German company.
The JI leader said that the affected families were expecting a due punishment for masterminds and facilitators of the culprits but the Anti Terrorism Court’s decision was not at par with the expectations.
Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that two condemned culprits were the people on the front in connection with the tragedy but what about those who ordered and designed the tragedy and later provided shelter to the culprits.
He also highlighted the issues and shortcomings in the criminal justice system that causes delay and eventually murder of the justice. He also stressed the need for reforms in the judicial system.
