PTI leads in second phase of AJK local polls

RAWALAKOT, Dec 04 (NNI): The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is leading with 229 seats in the second phase of the Local Government elections in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), according to interim results.
The polling was held in four districts of Poonch division – Bagh, Rawlakot, Haveli and Sudhanoti on Saturday.
The AJK Election Commission said it had received results of 708 out of total 787 seats.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won 229 seats.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) currently sit at the second position after securing 129 seats, followed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) with 104 seats.
The Jammu Kashmir People Party bagged 28 seats while the TLP managed to win seven seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami won 4 seats in the local government elections.
Interestingly, independent candidates have secured 233 seats.
The interim results show the ruling PTI failed to get its chairmen elected in Abaspur, Dhirkot and other municipal committees and it is likely to lose mayorship of Rawlakot.
As per Division wise results, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) beat its opponent parties in Bagh and Sudhnoti districts.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) gained victory in Haveli district and led the race in Poonch district.
As per the unofficial results, out of the 19 seats of Sudhnoti district council, the PTI bagged 11 seats.
The PML-N won four seats, independent candidates two and JUI-AJK won one seat. The result of one seat was awaited.
In the District Headquarters Municipality, the PTI bagged five out of eight seats, independent candidates won two while the PML-N won one seat only.
In Haveli district, the PML-N won seven out of 12 Union Council seats. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) got four seats while the ruling party PTI could get one seat only. The PML-N also won two out of three Town Committee seats of the district.
In Rawalakot Municipal Corporation of Poonch district, the Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) clinched seven seats. The PPP won four seats, PML-N and PTI won three each while the independent candidates won five seats.
