Sindh’s 50% agricultural land cleared for wheat cultivation: Manzoor Wassan

KARACHI, Oct 01 (NNI): Agriculture Advisor Sindh Manzoor Wassan has claimed that over 50% of the province’s agricultural land has been cleared of rain and flood water and is ready for wheat cultivation.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Manzoor Wassan has said that 50% of Sindh’s lands are cleared for wheat cultivation. Wheat will be sown in Sindh from October 15 to December 15, he added.
Wassan added that 70-75% of the wheat crop would be sown in the coming season. However, sugarcane crop cultivation was badly affected due to flood water in lands, he added.
Agricultural Lands in Sukkur, Nara, Ghotki, and Daharki have been cleared for cultivation, Manzoor Wassan told.
According to a report by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the recent floods and heavy rainfall have caused damage of over Rs297 billion and destroyed over 2.84 million acres of crops in Sindh, 778,742 acres in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 108229 acres in Balochistan, and 130,140 acres in Punjab.
The report issued by the Food Security Ministry shows that the recent flood and heavy rainfall have destroyed crops on 2.84 million acres including 1.467 million acres of cotton crop, and over a million acres of rice crop.
Other damaged crops include 101,000 acres of date farms, 45,000 acres of sugarcane, 29,000 acres of chilli, 42,000 acres of onion, 12,000 acres of tomato, and 30,000 acres of multiple vegetable crops. NNI
