LAHORE: The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has refused to start the sugarcane crushing until the permission to export the surplus sugar.
Addressing the press conference on Friday, PSMA Asim Ghani Usman said that the export permission would have been granted had the prime minister no link with the industry.
He said that PM Shehbaz Sharif fears political loss if he granted the permission to export sugar. “It is impossible to sell sugar at Rs82 per kg after preparing it at a cost of Rs100 per kg. We have the stock till January 2023,” he stated.
Asim Ghani said that the Sindh government accepts the export of sugar, but no progress was made on dialogues.
Zaka Ashraf said that the sugar industry would destroy if permission was not granted to export sugar. -PNP
