NEW YORK: In a significant development at the United Nations General Assembly, Pakistan has been elected as a member of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for a three-year term from 2024 to 2026. This marks Pakistan’s 11th tenure as a member of ECOSOC, showcasing its continued commitment to global economic and social development.

The United Nations General Assembly, comprising 193 member states, convened today to conduct elections for various key positions. Pakistan’s election to ECOSOC highlights its active participation and engagement in shaping the global agenda and addressing critical socio-economic challenges.

ECOSOC, one of the six main organs of the United Nations, plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable development, advancing social progress, and fostering international cooperation. As a member of ECOSOC, Pakistan will have the opportunity to contribute to policy discussions, propose initiatives, and collaborate with other member states to address pressing global issues.

Pakistan’s successful election to ECOSOC reaffirms its position as a responsible global actor committed to multilateralism and promoting the well-being of its citizens and the international community.
