ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, Pakistan’s Universal Periodic Report was unanimously adopted at the United Nations Human Rights Council. The international community, including several states and civil society organizations, commended Pakistan for its commendable progress in promoting human rights.
According to Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the Spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the adoption of the report was a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to upholding human rights. Baloch also highlighted the positive tone of the session and the overwhelming support expressed by the majority of states.
However, amidst the widespread appreciation, Israel’s statement stood out for its politically motivated nature. The spokesperson emphasized that Israel’s remarks were inconsistent with the overall positive atmosphere of the session and the statements made by a vast majority of states.
Pakistan responded to Israel’s statement by pointing out the long-standing history of oppression faced by Palestinians under Israeli occupation. In light of this, Pakistan expressed its skepticism regarding Israel’s credibility in offering advice on protecting human rights.
The adoption of Pakistan’s Universal Periodic Report signifies the country’s commitment to promoting and safeguarding human rights. The positive reception from the international community underscores the progress made by Pakistan in this area.
