ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that the last date for the submission of Statements of Assets and Liabilities by Members of Parliament and Provincial Assemblies for the financial year 2022-2023 is set for December 31, 2023. This mandatory requirement, under Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017, applies to all Members of the Parliament and Provincial Assemblies, including spouses and dependent children.
According to the provision, every Member of an Assembly and Senate must submit their statement of assets and liabilities, including those of their spouse and dependent children, on Form B. The deadline for submission is December 31, with the statement reflecting their financial status as of June 30 of the respective year.
To ensure compliance, the Election Commission will publish the names of Members who fail to submit their statements within the specified period. Additionally, Members who do not comply by January 15 will face suspension of their membership until they file the required statement.
The Election Commission has made the Form-B along with instructions and guidelines available free of cost at various locations, including the Election Commission Secretariat in Islamabad, offices of Provincial Election Commissioners, Senate Secretariat, National Assembly Secretariat, and Secretariats of concerned Provincial Assemblies. The Form-B can also be downloaded from the Election Commission’s website, www.ecp.gov.pk.
Failure to submit accurate statements of assets and liabilities may result in proceedings against Members found to have committed the offense of corrupt practice within one hundred and twenty days from the date of submission.
With this press release, the Election Commission urges all Parliamentarians and Members of the Provincial Assemblies from Sindh and Balochistan to meet the submission deadline and fulfill their obligation in accordance with the Elections Act, 2017.
