ISLAMABAD: In response to inquiries regarding the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed concerns raised by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Baloch reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering an inclusive democratic process, upholding the rule of law, and safeguarding human rights and fundamental freedoms as enshrined in its laws and Constitution. She assured that security plans have been finalized for the elections scheduled to take place on February 8, 2024, in accordance with Pakistan’s electoral laws. Furthermore, Baloch highlighted the availability of domestic legal remedies within Pakistan’s judicial system to address any complaints related to the electoral process, emphasizing the provision for fair trial and due process.
In response to recent comments from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding the forthcoming general elections in Pakistan, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, issued a statement underscoring Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles and human rights.
“Pakistan is fully committed to foster an inclusive democratic process, uphold the rule of law, and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms guaranteed in its laws and Constitution,” Baloch affirmed.
Amid concerns regarding the security arrangements for the upcoming elections, Baloch reassured the public that comprehensive security plans have been meticulously finalized to ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process on February 8, 2024, in strict adherence to Pakistan’s electoral laws.
“Our judicial system provides for fair trial and due process. Domestic legal remedies are available in case of any complaints in the electoral process,” Baloch elaborated, emphasizing the avenues for redressal within the country’s legal framework.
