ISLAMABAD: In a strongly worded response to certain Western nations’ questioning of the credibility of Pakistan’s February 8 polls, the Foreign Office asserted that the election is an internal sovereign matter of Pakistan. Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that Pakistan’s actions are in accordance with its constitutional obligations, independent of foreign influence.
Baloch, speaking at her weekly media briefing, highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to democracy, noting the unprecedented participation of millions, including women and young voters. She affirmed Pakistan’s openness to foreign observers, including the Commonwealth Observer Group, demonstrating transparency in the electoral process.

Responding to concerns raised by the US, UK, EU, and Australia regarding alleged restrictions, fraud, and interference in the elections, Baloch reiterated Pakistan’s seriousness in fulfilling its constitutional duties. She emphasized that the Election Commission of Pakistan is the appropriate body to address any queries or complaints regarding the electoral process.
Baloch also addressed other international matters, including Pakistan’s stance on the Afghan interim government, the acceptance of Afghan ambassador credentials by China, and ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinians. Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s actions, endorsing the OIC’s statement and calling for UN intervention to cease the violence and lift the siege on Gaza.
Regarding Pakistan’s relationship with India, Baloch expressed Pakistan’s desire for peaceful relations but criticized India’s belligerent approach, which hinders dialogue and peace efforts. She denounced India’s budget allocation for Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination based on UN Security Council resolutions.
Baloch also raised concerns over India’s suppression of dissent in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), citing recent raids on Kashmiri political organizations by India’s National Investigation Agency. She urged India to cease persecution of Kashmiri activists and release political prisoners, advocating for the rights and freedoms of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesperson’s remarks underscore Pakistan’s firm stance on internal and regional issues, emphasizing sovereignty, democracy, and human rights.
