Bureau Report

LAHORE: A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Lahore Police has been swiftly transferred after a contentious incident involving the halting of a vehicle belonging to Punjab Assembly member Malik Waheed of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The vehicle, identified as belonging to MPA Malik Waheed and equipped with tinted windows, was stopped by police officials, triggering a tense confrontation.
Video footage capturing the exchange between MPA Malik Waheed and the police personnel has emerged, revealing a charged interaction. Malik Waheed demanded a public apology, warning of potential repercussions if not met. Sub-Inspector Yasir and his team subsequently issued an apology, leading to Yasir’s transfer to the judicial wing, a move orchestrated by DIG Operations Mr. Ali Nasir Rizvi.
In a video statement, MPA Malik Waheed Awan asserted that the vehicle stop occurred during a rally organized to express gratitude to the Anjuman Tajran in his constituency. He alleged that the police intentionally targeted their convoy, resulting in a humiliating ordeal in full view of the public. Despite the incident, Malik Waheed conveyed his enduring respect for the police force, acknowledging their essential role as allies.
The incident has ignited widespread discourse regarding the conduct of law enforcement officials towards elected representatives, prompting calls for increased accountability and equitable treatment across the board.
