Notification banning passport issuance for asylum seekers abroad challenged in apex court

ISLAMABAD (Dateline News) – The government notification banning the issuance of passports to Pakistanis seeking asylum abroad has been challenged in the Supreme Court.The petition, filed by advocate Saim Chaudhry under Section 184(3) of the constitution, lists the federal government and Passport DG as respondents.

The petitioner has requested the court to declare this policy announced June 5 as null and void, arguing that the notification about the ban is discriminatory and violates fundamental rights.

The petitioner adds that the government notification is in violation of Articles 10, 10A and 25 of the Constitution.

He also contends that the government decided to ban the issuance of passports for Pakistani nationals seeking asylum abroad without providing any plausible reason or justification.

On June 11, the Interior Ministry had decided not to issue passports to Pakistanis seeking asylum abroad.
