ISLAMABAD:Chairman, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has directed the immediate installation of pelican crossings and modern signaling systems on major highways to improve pedestrian safety and ease traffic flow in the capital. The directive was issued during a high-level meeting at CDA Headquarters on Saturday, where Randhawa reviewed progress on the city’s comprehensive beautification and infrastructure improvement plan. The meeting was attended by CDA Board Members including Talat Mehmood (Member Administration and Estate), Syed Nafasat Raza (Member Engineering), Esfandyar Baloch (Member Environment), Dr Khalid Hafiz (Member Planning), Tahir Naeem (Member Finance), and other senior officials.Randhawa emphasized that pelican crossings—pedestrian-activated traffic signals—would help reduce road accidents and support safe pedestrian movement across Islamabad’s busiest highways. “Pedestrian safety is non-negotiable. These crossings will ensure that people can cross roads without putting their lives at risk,” he said.
