LAHORE:Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar chaired an important meeting held at the Central Police Office, in which a detailed review of the province’s law and order and security situation was carried out. Issuing clear directives, IG Punjab stated that no individual will be allowed to come out on the roads or take the law into their own hands under the pretext of a strike. He emphasized that the protection of citizens’ lives, property, and upholding the law will be ensured at all costs. Miscreants and rioters will be dealt with iron hands, and strict legal action will be taken in case of vandalism, violence, or public disorder. He added that cases of rioting will be registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), carrying punishments ranging from 10 to 14 years of imprisonment. IG Punjab said that the wheel of life will keep moving, markets, business centers, transport, and highways will remain open as usual.

The IG Punjab further stated that dozens of miscreants wanted by Punjab Police under Section 7 of the ATA will be arrested using advanced Artificial Intelligence–based technology. Data of all wanted individuals has already been fed into Safe City and patrolling vehicle cameras, while AI features are being used to identify faces, vehicle, and motorcycle number plates. He added that Special Branch’s AI engines are also being utilized to identify and apprehend miscreant elements. Dr. Usman Anwar said that 27,000 Punjab Police officers and personnel will be performing duties on roads, while 12,000 officials of the Special Branch will participate in locating and arresting miscreants.
