LAHORE:Punjab Police continues its relentless efforts to curb smog, air pollution, and safeguard the environment. Punjab police spokesperson shared that, over the past 24 hours, 28 cases were filed and multiple lawbreakers were arrested during smog crackdowns in Lahore and surrounding districts. During these operations, 396 individuals were fined more than 1 million rupees, and 23 individuals were issued warnings. Violations reported during the crackdown included 37 instances of crop residue burning, 231 cases of high-emission vehicles, 5 industrial violations, and 19 violations related to brick kilns.Punjab Police spokesperson further said that, so far this year, as a result of the smog crackdown in Lahore and various other districts, a total of 2,069 cases have been registered and 1,862 lawbreakers arrested. During this period, fines totaling more than 21.7 million rupees were imposed on 85,216 individuals, and over 11,000 individuals were issued warnings. Violations reported include 779 instances of crop residue burning, 51,258 cases of high-emission vehicles, 1,694 industrial violations, and 3,284 violations related to brick kilns. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed relevant officers to further accelerate the smog crackdown on highways, industrial areas, agricultural lands, and other locations. He made it clear that strict and immediate action will be taken against those violating the smog SOPs under a zero-tolerance policy.
