ISLAMABAD: Sub Inspector Arsalan Mehmood from National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) displayed exceptional vigilance by rescuing an elderly man who accidentally fell into a nearby water course.With assistance from the weigh station staff, the officer swiftly retrieved the half-conscious individual and arranged medical aid, said a press release issued on Monday.The man, identified as Syed Ghulam Abbas from Mohalla Chui West, Attock, was mentally unfit and carried no identification.The officer immediately initiated efforts to trace his family by sharing his photographs locally and making public announcements. As a result, the man’s son, Syed Jehangir Abbas, was located, and after completion of formalities, the elderly man was safely handed over to him.In recognition of his prompt action, compassion, and devotion to duty, Additional Inspector General (IG) North Region, Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan, appreciated the officer’s efforts, awarded him a commendation certificate along with 20,000 rupees cash reward during a ceremony held at the Additional IG Office, North Region.The Additional IG lauded the officer for upholding the NHMP’s core values of courtesy, integrity, and professionalism, emphasizing that such humane acts reflect the true spirit of public service and strengthen public confidence in the force.
