LAHORE: Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMAEA) Senior Vice Chairman Usman Ashraf has said that exports have a key role in the development of Pakistan’s economy; therefore, the government should formulate a policy of exploring new markets and single country exhibitions to promote exports.
He said the carpet industry is not a burden on the government, but if it is patronized, it can ensure employment at the doorsteps of the rural dwellers and help earning foreign exchange worth millions of dollars. He expressed these views while talking to the delegation that came for the meeting. On this occasion, Chairman of Carpet Institute Pervez Hanif, Senior Central Leader of the Association Abdul Latif Malik, Major (R) Akhtar Nazir, Senior Member Riaz Ahmed, Shahid Hassan, Saeed Khan, Ijazur Rehman, Akbar Malik and others were also present. In the meeting, the problems faced by the handmade carpets industry and suggestions for their solution were considered. Usman Ashraf said that we are determined to take the handmade carpets industry back to its peak as in the past, but it is not possible without the patronage and support of the government.
“There is a demand and suggestion that the government organizes a single country exhibition to find new markets and promote Pakistani products and an effective policy should be formulated for this,” he added and said separate funds should be allocated for manufacturers and exporters to participate in exhibitions held abroad.-PNP
