ISLAMABAD/KARACHI/LAHORE, Nov 04 (NNI): Thousands of agitating workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday took to the streets following the protest call by the party leaders after former prime minister Imran Khan, other party leaders were wounded in gunshots fired at the long march container.
As per details, a massive protest demo was held at Faizabad where hundreds of PTI supporters blocked all the roads leading to capital by burning tyres and placing other obstacles. A serious clash was observed between law enforcement agencies and the violent protesters at Faizabad.
PTI’s female workers also held a protest outside the National Press Club in Islamabad and chanted slogans against corrupt rulers.
The PTI workers started a sit-in at Faizabad and pelted stones at the police, resultantly, the police used tear gas to disperse the violent protesters.
During the protest, police also arrested two PTI workers on the charges of pelting stones at the security forces at the spot.
Islamabad Police took to Twitter to inform the public about the situation in the twin cities.
Earlier, protesters blocked Rawalpindi’s GT Road from both sides which affected traffic in the area. After workers ended their protests in Rawat, GT Road has been cleared for traffic. PTI’s women workers, on the other hand, left after protesting at the National Press Club.
Some protests were being held in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including in Peshawar.
In Peshawar, PTI supporters have gathered near the Peshawar Toll Plaza to protest against the gun attack on party Chairman Imran Khan. Protesters in multiple cities have set tires on fire and blocked roads.
The Insaf Lawyers Forum staged demonstration and shouted anti-government slogans. Peshawar Bar Association President Ali Zaman led the protest in which the participants strongly condemned attack on former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and other long march participants.
The protesters said that the country’s constitution give them right to protest peacefully and Imran Khan is the most popular leader of the country. They said the PTI chairman won by-elections on seven seats without running a campaign.
In Karachi, the PTI supporters have blocked the city’s busiest Shahrah-e-Faisal. As a result of the blockade, commuters are facing problems. Huge traffic jam was witnessed in different areas as protests started on many arterial roads in Karachi.
Karachi police resorted to tear gas shelling and baton-charge to disperse the protestors on the arterial Sharea Faisal on Friday. PTI workers in large numbers gathered at Sharea Faisal near FTC Fly-over to protest against the gun attack on Imran Khan during the long march in Wazirabad.
Heavy contingents of police force deployed at the arterial road to stop the advancement of the PTI protestors. Police officials tried to stop the PTI activists from holding their protest on the road.
The PTI workers refused the police call and started advancing on the Sharea Faisal after removing barricades. Later, the police started baton-charge and fired tear gas shells in an effort to disperse the PTI workers near Regent Plaza. The police officials also carried out aerial firing to stop the PTI workers.
Many women and children were affected by the tear gas shelling. Several PTI workers were arrested by the Karachi police.
The PTI workers in good numbers also gathered at Mall Road in front of the main gate of the Punjab Governor’s House and chanted anti-government and anti-rulers slogans.
The workers also tried to enter the Governor’s House and attacked it by climbing on the gates and damaging the reception cabin and security cameras in the presence of the police.
PTI protesters burnt tyres outside the Governor’s House and halted traffic at Mall Road. Reportedly, some ambulances also got stuck in the traffic.
The PTI workers also installed some ‘constitutional banners’ outside the Governor’s House main gate to record their protest against the rulers and their wrongdoings.
PTI workers also blocked Ring Road at Harbanspura by burning tyres. They also blocked traffic at Babu Sabu Chowk at Band Road by placing containers at the square while the Lahore administration suspended Metro Bus Service to avoid any unpleasant incident. NNI
