The annual award aims to draw global attention to the fight against human trafficking. Ahmed’s exceptional contributions in guiding the Government of Pakistan’s implementation of anti-trafficking reforms, leadership in capacity building, and training initiatives were acknowledged. These efforts played a crucial role in Pakistan’s advancement from TIP Tier 2 Watchlist to Tier 2 in 2022.
Zaheer Ahmed, a former director of the Federal Investigative Agency’s Anti-Human Smuggling Unit, has displayed unwavering commitment to combat human trafficking in all its forms. Within Pakistan, he actively raised awareness about this pervasive issue, particularly emphasizing its disproportionate impact on the country’s most vulnerable citizens. Through his resolute dedication and innovative approach, Ahmed successfully fostered collaboration between Pakistani law enforcement agencies and civil society, resulting in enhanced recognition of TIP and improved identification of its victims.

He also engaged with local and international advocacy groups, forming strategic partnerships and fostering a united front against human trafficking. His relentless efforts played a pivotal role in influencing policy reforms and strengthening legal frameworks in Pakistan, culminating in the country’s ratification of the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and Punish Trafficking in Persons in 2022.
Expressing his gratitude upon receiving the award, Ahmed acknowledged the collaborative efforts of his colleagues, stating, “This award is a testament to the resilience and strength of our teamwork.
