LAHORE: In a commendable move to bolster the welfare of the police force, Inspector General Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has initiated support for officers and officials grappling with legal cases arising from the performance of their official duties. This significant development was marked by a ceremony at the Central Police Office, where IG Punjab allocated 68 lakh rupees from the legal fund to 20 officials across six districts.
During the event, IG Punjab assured the gathered officers and officials that no one facing legal challenges in the courts for the sake of the department would be left unsupported. Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the commitment to expanding the legal endowment fund to aid a greater number of police officers entangled in legal issues. He encouraged those facing cases on behalf of the department, stating that the legal fund aims to alleviate the financial burden on affected employees.
In specific disbursements, Sahiwal Police received two and a half lakh rupees each for seven officers and personnel. Layyah Police, including an Inspector, received two lakh rupees per person for a total of four officials. Three officers from Multan Police and one from Pakpattan Police were granted five lakh rupees each. Additionally, Okara Police saw a disbursement of five lakh rupees per person for four officers and officials. The wife of the late traffic assistant Ghulam Asghar from Rawalpindi Police received two and a half lakh rupees.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar reiterated the ongoing commitment to prioritize measures aimed at resolving the challenges faced by officers and officials navigating court proceedings. The event was attended by key figures, including Additional IG Welfare Riaz Nazir Gara, Additional IG Operations Shahzada Sultan, DIG Operations Waqas Nazir, DIG Welfare Ghazi Muhammad Salahuddin, DIG Elite Mansoor ul Haq Rana, and AIG Admin Sahibzada Bilal Umar, among other distinguished officers.
This initiative underscores IG Punjab’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for the police force and ensuring that those facing legal battles receive the necessary assistance without resorting to drastic measures like selling personal assets.
