27th Annual General Meeting of Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) Held

ISLAMABAD: In a stunning revelation, the Managing Director (MD) of the Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) stands accused of brazenly flouting federal government’s austerity measures. Despite explicit directives aimed at tightening the country’s financial belt, the MD allegedly indulged in the purchase of a luxurious Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 cc vehicle, sparking outrage and raising serious questions about fiscal responsibility within the organization.
The Federal Government, grappling with unprecedented financial constraints, implemented stringent austerity measures for the fiscal year 2022-23 and 2023-24. These measures, designed to rein in unnecessary expenditure and reduce fiscal deficit, included a comprehensive ban on the purchase of non-essential vehicles. However, it appears that the MD of PMDC opted to sidestep these directives, opting for extravagance over prudence.
At the heart of the controversy lies the MD’s acquisition of a Toyota Corolla Cross, a high-Variant hybrid vehicle, at an exorbitant cost of approximately Rs11.50 million. This purchase, made without securing requisite approvals, not only violates governmental regulations but also underscores a flagrant disregard for prudent financial management. Despite mounting scrutiny and repeated inquiries, both the MD and Chairman of PMDC have maintained a conspicuous silence, refusing to address the allegations or provide clarification regarding the legality of the vehicle purchase. This deafening silence only serves to deepen suspicions of deliberate non-compliance and raises concerns about transparency and accountability within PMDC’s leadership. The scandal has sent shockwaves through the corridors of power, prompting calls for swift and decisive action. Stakeholders and government officials alike are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter to uncover the truth and hold accountable those responsible for this breach of trust.
As the scandal continues to unravel, it serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of upholding principles of fiscal responsibility and ethical governance. The outcome of any investigation will not only determine the fate of those implicated but also shape the future trajectory of PMDC and its commitment to serving the public interest.
